Owl - Barn

Barn Owl (Tyto alba)

This majestic bird hunts in the early evening and at night. It feeds on small mammals birds and insects. It nests in old buildings, trees an sometime cliffs. The 4 - 7 eggs hatch at intervals over 30 days. They can often be observed from RSPB reserve hides at dusk scouring the fields for prey.

This owl was photographed at Gibraltar point nature reserve in Lincolnshire. It was early evening and we used the Nikon D2xs on a tripod with a Manfrotto Gimbal type head with a Nikon 500mm prime and a 1.7tc.
